Jamila Mohammed: From a sales representative to a top Citizen Tv journalist

Citizen Tv’s journalist Jamila Mohammed is one of top journalists in Kenya with over two decades experience in media industry.She is popular for her fluency in Swahili language.

Like everyone, Jamila too has untold story of how she rose from modest begining to be the managing editor of Citizen TV.

So who is Jamila Mohammed?

Jamila did her KCSE at Ngara girls high school and scored a B-. Growing up, she was not passionate about being a journalist.

While speaking in one of the interviews, Jamila noted that she began working as a sales representative, and that journalism was not in her mind.

I first did a diploma in IT. When I was done with my computer classes, I heard an advertisement for a presenter position at IQRA FM, an Islamic radio station. I applied, and though l did not have all the requirements. My family encouraged me to apply.” She said.

To her surprise, Jamila was invited for the interview. She was then offered the job of a sales representative. According to her, she embraced the opportunity with two hands.

I was eager to try anything, so I agreed,” she continued.

Journalism career

Jamila journalism career began on day when the person who was supposed to read the news failed to appear. The manager requested her to stand in as a temporary replacement. Jamila gave her all and her star began shining.

After two years, Kenya Nation Tv spotted her talent and ‘poached’ her.While at NTV, she furnished her journalism skills more. She rose through ranks to be the station’s senior reporter and news anchor.

In 2015, Jamila became QTV managing director.

In 2018, Citizen Tv poached Jamila from NTV. She joined the giant media house as senior editor and a news anchor.She is currently ranked as one of the best journalists in Kenya
