Pastor Ezekiel’s teaching on tithing sparks mixed reactions on social media

A video of New Life Prayer Center leader Pastor Ezekiel, teaching his followers on how to Tithe has elicited mixed reactions. In a shot clip that has gone viral, the wealthy Televangelist warned his followers against robbing God. "Out of 100% salary, 10% ni ya mungu and 90% ni yako," he said. Pastor Ezekiel further noted explained that if one gave a tithe less than 10% of his salary, then that amounts to nothing and the person is supposed to give out 15% of salary in the subsequent month. The preacher went ahead and gave an example of a person earning Ksh. 50,000. Just like a teacher, he mathematically demonstrated how the person is supposed to earn. "Mshahara wako ni 50,000. Ukitoa 5,000, tick (right). Ukitoa 4,800 hio ni nothing..it gives you nothing na unadaiwa deni. Unadaiwa 5% plus 10%. So mwezi ujao unadaiwa 15% of the previous salary." he explained. According to him, believers should learn to honour tithing, because non believers have a way of spending their tithes on treatments and witchcraft. "Watu wa dunia wanatumia tithe yao kwa waganga na mahospitali wakinunua madawa." While reacting to the clip, Kenyans expressed mixed reactions. A section defended the preacher arguing that his preaching was anchored in the word of God.Here are some of comments. "That's Biblical and that's what I practice. Media and police struggling to put Pastor Ezekiel on the scene of crime!" "Yes , 10% is a command from God. No negotiation. If you are a Christian read your Bible Malachi 3:8-12, Leviticus 27:30-34, Mark 12:41-44 and so on..." "Mjaluo akiombea watu ameiba ,mjaluo akisimama u president anaibiwa ,kwani mjaluo hatakikani Kenya 😌" "That's true according to the Bible.There is a penalty for not being faithful in tithing."

Televangelist pastor Ezekiel Odero has for the past few days been trending on social media following his arrest. The preacher is facing charges over his linking to pastor Mackenzie's Shakahola deaths. The leader of NewLife Prayer Center, was accused of aiding suicides, and secretely burying the victims. Pastor Ezekiel Not Guilty, Lawyer Says A team of lawyers lead by Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta have however disputed claims that Shakahola deaths have any links with NewLife Prayer Center. The legal team however acknowledged that some followers died at pastor Ezekiel's church while being prayed against various ailments. While speaking outside port police station where pastor Ezekiel is being held, Omari said that only 15 people died while receiving prayers. "In the one year and a month that the institution has been in existence, around 15 people have died within Pastor Ezekiel's premises," said Omari. City lawyer Cliff Ombeta further noted that all the deaths were reported to the authorities in accordance with the law. "As at now the facts that we have is that none of the dead at Ezekiel church has died from fasting. Nobody lives there apart from employees who reside at the church," said Ombeta. The lawyers also faulted the reasoning of police, that Pastor Ezekiel buying Times Tv Station from Pastor Mackenzie had anything to do with Shakahola deaths. Lawyer Jared Mogolo wondored what by a Tv station had to do with Shakahola incident. According to him, if the analogy was to be applied on second hand item buyers, that many people would be found guilty of sins they did not commit. Akothee's state of art wedding left Kenyans talking in the past few days. The singer-businesslady wedded his mzungu boyfriend Omosh in a colourful ceremony. Everything about the event spoke money and wealth. Earlier on, Akothee revealed that she spent over Ksh.700K on wedding gown. The event was attended by several top Kenyans celebrities and politicians. Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance lader Raila Odinga's wife Idah Odinga ,Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa and nominated senator Karen Nyamu were among the politiciana who attended the event. While many Kenyans were happy with Akothee's new milestone, it appears some are not happy. A Kenyan man identified as Ochy Manchester lamented few number of attendees who were allowed into the wedding. He noted that Akothee had invited several politician just like she did in one of her previous wedding. Ochy who speculated that she will have yet another wedding in the near future pleaded with her not to limit the number of guests.
