Musa Hasahya Kasera: Meet Ugandan Man With 102 Children and 578 Grandchildren

A 68-year old Ugandan man has continued to shock many across the world over his large family.

Musa Hasahya Kasera who has married 12 wives is a father of 102 children and 578 grandchildren. While speaking to AFP the ageing man revealed the burden of providing for the large family. He said that he has opted for birth control methods to prevent more child bearing. The regretful Musa said that he can no longer look after his large family well. Musa Hasahya Kasera does not know the names of all his children. "I only know the names of the first born and the last born. My wives help me identify some of my children," he noted. "I have decided enough is enough. My wives are now using contraceptives but I am not. I do not expect more. I have learned from my irresponsible behavior of having many children that I cannot take care of," he said. On why he chose to marry many wives, Musa said villagers who were attracted to his status as a trader and a butcher would gift him girls, some below the age of 18 years. The law against marrying underage girls in Uganda was abolished in 1995 but polygamy has remained a common practice. Regular Family Meeting The family of Musa Kasera conducts a meeting every month to solve disputes. Musa chair the meeting and incase of any disagreement, they solve immediately. While speaking to AFP, the local administrator lauded Musa Kasera to bringing up his children well. He noted that despite being many in number, there has been no case of theft and other minor crimes.
