He attended Gatunganga Primary School and later joined Kagumo High School for his secondary education. He then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Nairobi.
Before joining politics, Kuria worked in the private sector, where he held senior positions in various companies, including East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and Diamond Trust Bank.

In 2013, Kuria ventured into politics and vied for the Gatundu South parliamentary seat on a TNA (The National Alliance) party ticket, which he won. He was re-elected in the 2017 general elections on a Jubilee Party ticket.
He was recently appointed by President William Ruto as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade.
