Raila Odinga clears air on Christianity Elevation remark

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has come out to defend his ‘Christianity Elevation’ remark.

In a video shared by Citizen Tv which has ever since gone viral, the ODM leader termed Christianity as an elevated religion. The political heavyweight blamed the colonials for the stereotype. He further promised to end that once elected as a president in the August polls.
“When colonialist came here they elevated Christianity above other religions, a stereotype that has lived up to date. I will end that. The constitution says Kenya is a secular Country,” he stated.

His words have not been received well by many Christians. While taking to social media, a section of Christians have castigated Raila Odinga for what they have termed as downgrading their religion.
Raila Odinga has however boldly defended his statement. While giving an address, Raila has said that his speech was not ill-intended.
“There is a clip going round, I was addressing Muslim Women who complained about discrimination. I explained the roots of discrimination in colonialism. The Anglican Church was the queen’s church. It was favored that time. I did not want to use that against Christianity,” he said.
