
The main suspect in the grievous assault of Baby Junior Sagini, Alex Maina Ochogo has been sentenced to 40 years behind bars.
Maina, the cousin of the three-year-old child, was found guilty of gouging out the eyes of the minor in December 2022 at Ikuruma Village in Kisii County.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ogweno of Kisii Law Courts also handed baby Sagini’s aunt Pacifica Nyakerario 10 years jail term and his grandmother Rael Mayaka, 5 years jail term.
Baby Sagini went missing in early December and was later found on his uncle’s maize plantation in Marani, Kisii County. Before the heinous act, baby sagini was reportedly kidnapped for 6 hours.

According to doctors, baby sagini who fell prey to his attackers while fetching water at a nearby river, will remain blind for the rest of his life.
The three suspects had on January 18 been charged with attempted murder which. The charge however changed to causing grievous bodily harm according to Section 4 of the Penal Code after Prosecutor Hillary Kaino made an application to the court to amend the charges.
Earlier on during a virtual cross-examination in March, Sagini disclosed that his grandmother gouged out his eyes using her hands before dumping him at a maize plantation.
Junior Sagini 4, is currently in the custody of the government.
