Police Constable James Mukhwana Arrested Over Albert Ojwang Murder

Authorities investigating the brutal murder of a 31 year old blogger-cum-teacher Albert Ojwang have confirmed the arrest of Police constable James Mukhwana of Central Police Station in Nairobi.
Mukhwana was arrested after investigations linked him to untimely death of Albert.The cop, who is detained at Capitol Hill police station will be charged with murder of the blogger.
Police report revealed that Mukhwana was arrested by officers from the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) of the National Police Service and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The report read, “Please be informed that PC James Mukhwana of Central Police Station Nairobi was arrested today 12/06/2025 and placed in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station by officers from IAU and IPOA and is to be charged with the offence of murder contrary to section 203 as read with Section 204 of the penal code following the death of one Albert Ojwang.”
Mukhwana arrest comes amidst call for resignation of Deputy Inspector General Elliud Lagat, who was the complainant in the case that led to arrest of Ojwang. According to activists, Elliud Lagat should be held accountable for the demise of the blogger.
Ojwang was arrested by DCI officers in Homa Bay County over a controversial social media post in which he reportedly defamed DIG Elliud Lagat. He was then transferred to Central Police Station in Nairobi.
Hours later, he was taken to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the medical officer on duty that day, Albert Ojwang was brought into the facility at 2.00 am. A report from the hospital indicated that the late Ojwang’s face was swollen, with his body and limbs marred by multiple bruises.
According an article published by The Star magazine dated 12th June 2025, Albert Ojwang was tortured in Karura forest before he was booked at Central Police Station.
