Hon. Linet Toto Issues A Strong Statement Over Attack On Hon. Jane Njeri Maina

Bomet Women Rep Linet Chepkorir Toto has joined several Women leaders in condemning the attack on Kirinyaga Woman Rep. Jane Njeri Maina.

Njeri was seriously injured while at Kerugoya Police Station after two groups supporting rival political factions clashed.Njeri, who is also a lawyer, had accompanied her client Baragwi MCA David Mathenge to the station to record a statement over allegations of vandalizing a county government water project at Mukandu-ini village last week.

The legislature was issuing a press briefing after recording a statement at Kerugoya Police Station, when violence erupted. A group of youths reportedly linked to Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru began hurling stones to scatter a the crowd.

In the process, the Woman Rep. was hit with a stone and seriously injured on the head, upon which she was rushed to the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital before being referred to the Nairobi Hospital with serious head injuries.

While speaking after visiting Njeri Maina in the hospital, Linet Chepkorir condemned the incident, terming the act as unacceptable.

I strongly condemn the brutal attack on my colleague Hon. Wakili Njeri Maina, the Woman Representative for Kirinyaga County. This act of violence is deeply concerning and unacceptable.” She said.

In a message she posted on her Facebook page, the young legislature further called on the police to move with the speed and bring the perpetrators into books. She noted that such act of violence should not go unpunished.

A thorough investigation must be conducted to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Such incidents undermine the safety of public officials, and they must not go unpunished.” She added.
