
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has urged youths to register as voters if they want the candidate of their choice to clinch the presidential seat in the upcoming general election.
Speaking on Thursday evening after arriving from America, Matiang’i pleaded with youths to prepare themselves and participate fully in 2027 elections. He noted that it is the only way to get good leaders.
“Tujipange tafadhali, Gen Z, we can do so much but if we don’t register as voters, we won’t succeed. The Idea is let’s register and prepare ourselves to participate in the success of the upcoming general election,” he said.
The former CS was speaking to a group of youths that had gathered at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to receive him from America.He urged Kenyan to put their political affiliations aside and unite for a better Kenya.
“We are all one family in this country. It doesn’t matter how I do my politics, our country must remain united as a family. We must remain as one,” he said.
Matiang’i flew to America on May 18 to resign from World Bank Job, where he has been working since September 2022
“His job at World Bank is over, and he has already resigned. We expect him to jet back to the country any time from now, probably before June 21,” Said one of the top government official well versed with Matiang’i plans.
His return comes amidst strong reforms by Jubilee party in a bid to front him as a Presidential candidate in 2027 general elections.
Matiang’i left the country after a month of engaging in fierce politics and further announcing his presidential bid. His one month stint shook the national political landscape.The former CS recently joined the opposition that is led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
