Contrary to popular opinion, Malik Lemuel, better known as Govi from the renowned television series Machachari, did not have a lucky start in life. Due to his appearance on the long-running television show Machachari, he is well-known.
Where was Govi born and raised?
Govi revealed that he was raised in the slums of Mukuru Kwa Njenga in the Wangige and Imara Daima informal settlements during an interview with Jalang’o on his YouTube channel last year.
“I was born in 2000 in Kenyatta Hospital, a public hospital. When I was growing up, those days we were house hoping. My dad would take us to his cousins, get kicked out and so on. We moved to Wangige, then Imara Daima and finally South B. We really struggled until my dad flew to UAE, and Machachari gig came through,” Govi said.
What was stunning was Govi’s account of how, at the age of five, he was compelled to work as a matatu tout in South B due to financial difficulties at home. “When I was five, I was a Makanga at South B, and we could come from school and hit the matatu stages to fill up matatus.” “It was my cousin who was showing me the ropes,” he explained.
In the candid interview, the former Machachari child star revealed how he rose to prominence through parts in Makutano Junction, Machachari, and other films. Govi also disclosed that his first job was a voice over for Famila Uji when he was only two years old. “Things started to look up for me and my family following the Machachari gig,” he added.
In the same interview, Govi disclosed that, contrary to earlier rumors, he was not sacked from the show but had left earlier.
The 22-year-old is now on university, studying International Relations. During a Q&A session with his Instagram fans, he recently made news by revealing that he is open to dating older women.
He is also a business owner. He revealed that he chose to launch his own real-estate company, Dutch House Designers, which designs and sells real estate. He also owns Dilip Tours and Travel, a partnership tour firm.
However, the young man has not given up acting entirely. He has appeared in Flash Squad, an educational teen TV series that airs on Akili Kids, the first and only dedicated and local free-to-air children’s television channel.
