“Anaskia kiwaru,” Kenyans concerned as Eliud Kipchoge fail to congratulate Kelvin Kiptum
On Sunday 8 October, Kenyan Athlete Kelvin Kiptum broke the limit and gave a sterling performance at Bank Of Chicago Marathon. The 23-year old runner shaved off the previous record of 2hr 1min 9s, which was set by his compatriot Eliud Kipchoge at the 2022 Berlin Marathon.
In his statement, Kiptum disclosed that he did not know that the title would come soon.
“World record was not in my mind today, but I knew one time one day I’d become a record holder,” elated Kiptum said.
Despite the sterling performance, the former World record holder, Kipchoge is yet to congratulate his fellow athlete for smashing his record.
Kenyans online expressed concerns over athlete’s silence on not congratulating Kelvin Kiptum for breaking the world record
“I haven’t seen a tweet from Eliud Kipchoge congratulating Kiptum for smashing the world record set by Kipchoge himself. What could be wrong with Kipchoge who keeps bombarding us with motivational quotes on how you must stretch the limits? Kiptum did stretch those limits, right?” wrote ItsMutai.
While a section of Netizens expressed displeasure with Kipchoge’s silence, some Netizens maintained that the athlete set unbreakable limit, owing to the infamous INEOS Marathon where he ran under 2 hours.
