Judith Akoth set to graduate with a Diploma in nursing:

The story of Judith Akoth is a cocktail of pure determination, hardwork and perseverance. Contrary to what many believe, Judith has beaten all odds to prove that it is not age that define us, but rather our attitude and mindset.

Besides hailing from a very poor family, Judith became a total orphan at the age of 10 years. She was forced to seek shelter at her grandmother’s place.

I lost my father at the age of seven. 3 years later I lost my mother, leaving me an orphan and under the care of my maternal grandmother,” she narrated.

Despite the hardship, Judith exhibited her brilliance and academic potential. In 1998, she sat for KCPE and emerged with stunning performance, making her the third best student in the school.

Judith’s highschool journey was also marred with financial constraints, which saw her move from one day school to another. She did her KCSE in 2002 and scored a B-.

The academic performance ignited hope for a better future but it did not take long before another misfortune struck. Her grandmother succumbed to diabetes, forcing her into marriage at the age of 18.

My journey took another challenging turn. My grandma died of diabetes forcing me to get married at 18, just have an accomodation.

It was not until 2019, when she regained the burning desire for education, thanks to the farmer who noticed her exemplary caregiving skills while she was looking after her sick aunt.

Judith joined KMTC in 2020. She faced fierce opposition from family members but she remained ruthlessly focused on her goals.

Early this year, Judith experienced two hurdles that almost paralyzed his academic dreams. Few months after suffering an Ankle injury, she received a devastating news.

Two months to my final exam while on rural placement, I received some disheartening news that my husband had passed on. I felt as though the world around me was crumbling but I refused to be broken.” She said.

Judith Akoth is now set to graduate from KMTC, at the age of 39, with a diploma in nursing. She disclosed that she is focused to advancing her studies beyond this milestone.
