Popular Tanzanian singer Zuchu has apologized after authorities in Zanzibar suspended him for six months to engage in all artistic activities on the islands due to an exhibition that they deemed to be the moral of the region.
Zuchu’s show on Zanzibar’s Kendi Island last month included languages and sexual signs.
The Institute of Arts, Census, Film and Culture Zanzibar on Tuesday said the exhibition went against the traditions, customs and culture of the islands.
It also asked Zuchu to apologize.
In a video circulated on his Instagram on Tuesday evening, the musician apologized for any mistake caused by his play.
“The goal was to entertain and not to mislead,” he said.
The singer has also been suspended “engaging in any artistic activities” in Zanzibar for the next six months by the local Cultural Council.
Zuchu, the real name Zuhura Othman Soud, is one of the most successful musicians in East Africa.
The 30 -year -old musician is the first female musician in East Africa to get one million followers on YouTube, over a year.
She is also the first female musician in East Africa and is the only fifth female artist in the country to exceed 500 million times to be viewed on YouTube, according to her WCB Wasafi label.
