Kenyans to pay Ksh.1000 to preach in Nairobi City, Other Charges Increased
Residents of Nairobi County will be forced to brace hard times ahead as governor Sakaja’s government proposes to increase various charges including car parking fees.
If the proposed tax collection bill will go through, the Nairobi residents will be forced to dig deeper into their their pockets to remit their taxes.
With the law anchored in the Nairobi County Finance Bill 2023, the Nairobi County is planning to increase various charges including fees and fines in transport within the City.
The county is also planning to increase rental fee for market stalls, hotels, shops and public spaces
Parking areas have been put into two categories, with ty he first category comprising of Central Business District (CBD), Kijabe Street, Westlands, Upperhill, Community, Ngara, Highridge, Industrial area, Gigiri, Kilimani, Yaya Centre, Milimani, Hurligham, Lavington, Karen, Eastleigh, Muthaiga, Gikomba and Nairobi West. The second category will include parkings around business areas and parking lots of Nairobi County markets that have not been included in category one
In the areas that have been put in category 1, parking fees for small vehicles will be increased from Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 300, courier service vehicles from Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 500. The parking fees for Mini bus/lorry with up to 5 tonnes will go up from Ksh. 1000 to Ksh. 2000. Vehicles weighing more that 5 tonnes will be charged Ksh. 3,000 from Ksh. 1000.
Other charges that have caught the attention of the public are; Ksh.500 per pay to preach in Jevanjee and Kamukunji, Ksh. 1000 per day to preach in City Park, Ksh.10,000 to hawk inside Uhuru Park and Ksh. 125,000 to operate a supermarket. Bodaboda riders will pay Ksh.1000 to ride people to the city while it will cost one Ksh. 1,500 to register a Taxi. Motorist will also pay Ksh. 3000 per month to park vehicles along the city roads.
